From Idea to Reality: Building a Blog About Everyday ChatGPT Use (With ChatGPT’s Help)

April 20, 2025 · by David Blatt

A few weeks ago, I had an idea:

I wanted to share how I use ChatGPT to make my everyday life easier.

Even though I have a degree in Computer Science and know how to build websites, I didn’t want to spend weeks coding everything from scratch. I wanted a faster and easier way — so I asked ChatGPT for help.

Instead of building everything the hard way, I used modern tools to set things up quickly and focus on what matters most: sharing real examples of how AI can make life easier.

Choosing How to Build the Blog

At first, I thought about using WordPress.

WordPress is great if you want a basic website quickly, but it can be slow and full of features I didn’t really need.

I wanted something faster, simpler, and something I could fully control.

That’s why I chose two tools: Payload and Next.js.

Payload is a headless content management system.

That means it handles writing, editing, and organizing posts, but it doesn’t control how the website looks — giving me full creative freedom.

Instead of being stuck using someone else’s design or plugin, I could build exactly what I wanted.

Here are three reasons why I chose Payload over WordPress:

  1. Speed and Flexibility — Payload is faster and simpler than WordPress. It doesn't come with lots of extra stuff that can slow a website down.
  2. Full Control — With Payload, I can design my blog exactly the way I want it. I’m not forced to pick from a few ready-made designs or plugins like you often have to with WordPress. Instead, I can choose what my blog looks like, how it works, and even add new features when I need them. It’s like building with Lego blocks where I decide the shape, instead of buying a toy that's already built.
  3. Easier to Build With — Payload is made for people who like creating things. It lets me add new parts easily without getting stuck.

Next.js was the natural choice to build the frontend of the site — helping it load fast and look good on all devices.

Together, Payload and Next.js gave me full control over my blog — and let me focus on writing and sharing ideas.

Building the Blog

First, I set up Payload so I could easily create and manage posts.

Then I used Next.js to design how the blog looks and make sure it works smoothly everywhere.

Whenever I got stuck — like making the homepage show my latest posts — I used ChatGPT to find quick solutions.

It felt like having a smart assistant nearby that saved me time and kept the project moving.

In the end, I had a blog that looks good, runs fast, and is 100% mine.

What I’ll Be Sharing Here

This blog is where I’ll post real examples of how I use ChatGPT in daily life.

Some of the things I plan to write about soon include:

How I used ChatGPT to help write this very blog article

  • How I’ll use ChatGPT to set up a newsletter so readers can subscribe
  • How I’ll use ChatGPT to find the best ways to improve my cardio and fitness
  • Tips and tricks on how ChatGPT can help with everyday tasks and learning new skills

The goal is to show real ways AI can make life better — not just in theory, but through practical examples anyone can understand.

This is just the beginning, and I’m excited to keep learning, sharing, and building new things with the help of ChatGPT.
